Publishing Director Emily Gowers has acquired World English Rights, from Euan Thorneycroft of AM Heath, for a powerful historical novel by Emma Fraser, who also writes as Morag Pringle. Valley of the Fireflies, which is based on a true story and set between wartime Tuscany and the present day, explores themes of love, loss, and redemption across two generations. The novel will be published in April 2026.
Emma says:
“While staying as a guest of the owner of the Castello di Porciano, I learned what happened at Vallucciole at the tail end of World War Two. I knew immediately I had to write a story with the events at its heart. Valley of the Fireflies, a book about human courage and sacrifice, is the result. Writing as Emma Fraser, I am thrilled to be working with Storm again and, in particular, the amazing Emily Gowers.”
Emily comments:
“I’ve adored working on Emma’s crime series and I am so excited to be continuing our journey with this incredible story. Emma has crafted a novel that takes the terrible tragedy of the Second World War and, with her signature style and characterisation, makes it intensely personal. It is an unforgettable story, and I am honoured to be publishing it”
