Q: What if I disagree with edits that my editor is suggesting?

Our editors will always tell you the truth when they think editorial changes can make a book sell more or help you more effectively retain readers across a series, but we won’t force you to change your writing in a way you disagree with.

Q: How long will I have to work on my edits?

Our editors will agree an editing and publication schedule with you that will take into account any existing professional or personal commitments and your unique writing speed. That way, we’re always making the best use of your time and you aren’t waiting around or feeling rushed.

Q: Will you edit my book?

Yes. We think the best publishing comes from a strong working partnership between an author and their editor.

Q: Would I be signing away my publishing rights forever?

No. The term of our basic contract is 10 years. We also have a clause in our contracts that means rights will revert to you if, after three years, you are earning less than £200 a year in royalties.

Q: How many books would my contract be for?

Typically, we contract at least two books from authors because we want to work with you over time to build a big readership for your writing. We also focus many of our marketing strategies on keeping readers hooked across several books.

Q: Will you translate my book into other languages?

We want the books we publish to be read by as many people as possible, including in other languages. Where we have the rights, we’ll translate a select number of titles ourselves, and the rest we’ll offer to foreign publishers. We’ll make the decision about which is right for your book based on what's likely to generate the best royalties.
