We’re thrilled to announce that Editorial Director Emily Gowers has acquired World English Language rights for three books in a new detective series by Morag Pringle, from Euan Thorneycroft of AM Heath. Morag also writes historical and romance novels under the pen names Emma Fraser and Anne Fraser. The first book in the Rachel McKenzie series will publish January 2024.
Morag says,
“I am delighted to have Storm as my publisher and even more delighted to have Emily as my editor for my new Rachel McKenzie crime series set across the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Ever since I learned about the ‘Death Unit’, the team tasked with determining whether sudden deaths should be investigated, I knew it was the right place for my heroine Rachel McKenzie, a lawyer haunted and driven by her painful past. The first book takes Rachel to Uist in the Western Isles, where my Gaelic speaking parents were born and where I still have close ties. It is there, whilst fighting to convince colleagues a woman’s death was a crime, that Rachel finds her own life threatened, and begins to unearth the truth behind her mother’s murder.”
Emily says,
“I’m beyond excited to work with Morag on this fantastic series. As soon as I started reading I was held captive. Morag reels the reader in with an intriguing murder on a remote and tight-knit Scottish island, and keeps us gripped with her brilliant narration and the pitch-perfect dynamics between the team. Bring on January!”
