I’m surprised and grateful to be full time novelist. I was stunned when the writing bug bit me and it took a lot of courage to listen to that call. I’m glad I did. Yellow Crocus has reached a million readers and been published in ten languages.

I’ve worked as a preschool teacher and director (Woolsey School!), a birth doula, and as the Director of Children and Family Ministries at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland.

I’m determined to do my part small part to add a little more love and justice to our hurting world. My wonderful wife, Rinda, has put up with my big personality for more than 30 years. We live in a small co-housing community in Berkeley, California with Hazel, our adorable toy Aussie, and two other families. Our young adult children and children-in-law are kind enough to text, FaceTime and visit often. We welcomed our first grandchild recently and it’s as great as it is rumored to be.

When I’m not writingIn my free time I like to cook, walk with friends and do puzzle while watching tv. I’m also pretty intrigued by the enneagram, which helps with character development.
