Three years on from launch, the independent start-up has sold more than 4 million copies, signed over 100 authors, and is scaling its business through translation, US print, and genre expansion.

Every publisher has a founding story. Storm’s began in 2022, when Oliver Rhodes – who grew Bookouture into one of the world’s most successful digital publishers before selling it to Hachette UK – sat down to figure out what he’d do differently the second time. The answer became Storm: a publisher that would pay authors 50% on digital sales from day one, attract an industry-leading team, and work relentlessly to expand the global reach of its books. Three years later, the foundations are in place, and Storm is moving fast.

Storm Italia, the flagship joint venture with Italian publishing house Giunti Editore launched in January 2026, is off to a flying start. Piccoli Fantasmi (Little Ghosts) by Gregg Dunnett soared to #1 in the Italian translation charts, with Il Passaggio Segreto (The Passage) by Irina Shapiro and Delle Arzille Detective (The Widows’ Guide to Murder) also hitting the print bestseller lists.

Building on that momentum, Storm will publish its first German and Spanish-language editions in the second half of 2026, marking the next step in its wider translation programme. Led by Kathryn Taussig, Storm’s Publisher and Director of Global Ventures and Publishing Director Emily Gowers, the programme will be run by Storm directly and includes an initial list of twenty-four titles.

US bookstores are another new channel for Storm, and one that is growing fast. A partnership with Two Rivers Distribution (part of Ingram Publisher Services) has brought Storm titles to Barnes & Noble, indie bookshops, Walmart, Target and beyond, and author signings are gaining pace. Recent print-only deals include dark romance and romantasy titles with BookTok sensation and million-copy bestseller Jolie Vines, and dark fantasy romance author Isla Davon, with further major names to be announced.

The next step, in October 2026, will see the launch of Notorious Press, Storm’s new true crime imprint led by Deputy Managing Director Claire Bord, with Ordinary Wife by #1 New York Times bestselling and Edgar-nominated author Gregg Olsen, co-authored with his daughter Morgan Olsen.

Oliver Rhodes, Managing Director and founder of Storm Publishing, said:

“When I started Storm, I had a clear idea of the kind of publisher I wanted to build – I just had to start from scratch. Getting the right people on the team came first. Then the authors who believe in what we are doing. We’ve been building together for three years now and it gives me a real buzz to see their books taking off all over the world. With the momentum we have, I think we’ll surprise a few people with what we accomplish in the next three years.”
