Deputy Managing Director Claire Bord has acquired World All Language, audio, film and TV rights directly from Emerson Ford for her third historical novel with Storm.
Inspired by the true story of Ada Blackjack, Beyond the Frozen Sea is set in Alaska in 1921 and follows an Iñupiaq woman who joins a dangerous Arctic expedition to save her gravely ill young son. When she is left alone on a remote island, her fight for survival becomes a powerful testament to maternal love and resilience.
Claire Bord said:
“Ada Blackjack’s story is one of the most remarkable survival tales I’ve ever encountered, yet it has remained untold in fiction until now. With What the Silent Say and Every Bend in the River, Emerson has proven herself a master of lyrical prose and unforgettable characters, earning thousands of glowing reviews. This is her most ambitious work yet – a story that will spark endless book club discussions about motherhood, resilience, cultural identity, and what we’re truly capable of when everything is at stake. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with such an extraordinary talent.”
Emerson commented:
“It is an honor to bring this extraordinary woman’s story to life. I’m thankful to Storm for leading the way and giving Ada’s example of perseverance through the darkest of times the attention it deserves. The more I learn about her, the more I’m astonished at her bravery and quiet fortitude. The whole team at Storm is phenomenal, but I’m especially happy to be working with Claire Bord – a champion of authors and stories alike, and Oliver Rhodes, whose vision continually brings Storm to greater heights.”
Emerson Ford is a bestselling author and A Military Writers Society of America gold medal winner. Her previous novels with Storm, What the Silent Say and Every Bend in the River, have earned praise for their emotional depth and masterful storytelling. Beyond the Frozen Sea will be published in January 2027 in trade paperback and available in bookshops across the United States and Canada as part of Storm’s partnership with Two Rivers. The book will also be published in paperback, ebook, and
audio.
