Deputy Managing Director Claire Bord has acquired World English Language rights for The Translator by Annabelle Marx from Jenny Brown of Jenny Brown Associates.
Fifteen years after the woman she loved drowned in the Thames, Edie Adler receives a mysterious package of French novels. Her desperate hunt for answers takes her from Paris to Malta’s shores, as she unravels a mystery that will change everything she
believed about her vanished love.
Claire Bord said,
“When Annabelle first shared her idea for The Translator I was completely blown away. This is an achingly beautiful novel that captures both the intensity of a hidden love story and the quiet devastation of lives lived apart – with an extraordinary page-turning mystery at its heart. Annabelle is building a loyal following for her unique historical fiction, and I know readers who loved The Herbalist’s Secret and The Rebel of Seventh Avenue will be captivated by this powerful new novel. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Annabelle.”
Annabelle Marx said,
“The story for The Translator was sparked after going through the papers and photographs of my great aunt, a singular woman of fortitude and perseverance. This story is wholly made up, but has the essence of the single women who lived in the aftermath of WW1, who had to make their own way in a world which still expected them to live by marriage, not by their wits, where same-sex relationships were a taboo, an unforbidden love that had to be brushed under the carpet.”
“I am thrilled to, yet again, be working with Claire and the team at Storm, who have believed in this story from its very early beginnings and shown me nothing but energy and professionalism throughout my publishing journey.”
Annabelle Marx is an Amazon top ten bestselling author. A graduate of the Faber Academy, Annabelle also holds an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University. Her previous novels with Storm include The Herbalist’s Secret and The Rebel of Seventh Avenue. A trade paperback edition of The Rebel of Seventh Avenue will launch in the US in April this year as part of Storm’s partnership with Two Rivers.
The Translator will be published in ebook, audio and paperback in October 2026.
